How to get a Ghana Passport

To complete an application you have to purchase passport forms online via Mobile Money or Visa/MasterCard at (https://passport.mfa.gov.gh/)

Guidelines for Acquiring a Republic of Ghana Passport

First time applicants

What you need to apply for the passport. Scan and attach the following:

  • Birth Certificate (this is your proof of Ghanaian citizenship)
  • Other documents to show your identity: Driver’s License, National ID card etc.
  • If you are working, provide your proof of profession (a letter from your employer or a work ID card with your name, the organisation’s name and your position.)
  • If you are a student, provide your student ID.
  • If you work for yourself you should show your business registration certificate.
  • If you are not working or working in the informal sector (mechanics, hairdressers, seamstresses, traders etc.) you do not need proof.

Renewal of Ghanaian passport

What you need to apply for the passport. Scan and attach the following:

  • Birth Certificate (this is your proof of Ghanaian citizenship)
  • Other documents to show your identity: Driver’s License, National ID card etc.

For the black book/ machine readable passports

Scan and attach the following:

  • First page (Coat of Arms and Director’s signature)
  • Biodata page with picture and information
  • Valid Visa if the applicant has any in Old Passport
  • Profession page
  • Proof of Profession if changed

Missing passport

What you need to apply for the passport. Scan and attach the following:

  • Police Report
  • Affidavit
  • Proof of Identity
  • Birth Certificate

Damaged passport

What you need to apply for the passport. Scan and attach the following:

  • Old damaged passport

Change of name

What you need to apply for the passport. Scan and attach the following:

Marriage/Divorce Certificate

  • Affidavit
  • Gazette

Applicants below 18

What you need to apply for the passport. Scan and attach the following: 

  • Birth certificate
  • Parents or Guardians ID
  • Upon submission Applicant’s biometric data will be captured and a picture taken at the Passport Application Center (PAC).

  • Accra PAC: Kinbu Road (Old Foreign Affairs)
  • Kumasi PAC: Guggisberg Road, Opposite PWD, Adum, Ministries
  • Takoradi PAC: Ghana Immigration Head Quarters (Within the Regional Administration)
  • Sunyani PAC: Adjacent to Jubilee (shares a wall with the Park)
  • Ho PAC: Regional Administration (Shares building with Immigration)
  • Tamale PAC: Police Park (Old Library)
  • Ridge PAC: Ridge
  • Premium PAC – Accra: Accra Digital Center, Adjacent State Housing Company, Ring Road West, Accra
  • Tema PAC: Former IRS Office, Community 4, Tema
  • Koforidua PAC: PWD Office, SSNIT Office Area, Koforidua.
  • Premuim PAC – Kumasi: 2nd Floor, Thankful Heights Building, Adum, Kumasi
  • Premium PAC – Tamale: 2nd Floor, Pension Tower, Tamale
  • Cape Coast PAC: Opposite Ford Station
  • Wa PAC: Block C, Regional Coordination Council, Wa

Applicants will then be given a date for the collection of the passport.
