Young Women Empowerment and Advancement Programme (YWEAP)

Create of Employment opportunities for the Youth and Develop medium and long term strategies. The programme is designed to change the mind-set of young female youth growing up in an environment that increasingly confines them to traditional gendered roles through sustained awareness raising and community advocacy to enable young women to re-evaluate their intrinsic worth in their communities and society at large. Changing the attitudes and behaviors of young women is a major contributor in YWEAP that would up-lift the image of young women in Sierra Leone.

Graduate Internship Programme (GIP)

With its mandate to create jobs and job opportunities for youth in Sierra Leone, the National Youth Commission initiated the Graduate Internship Programme in 2012. It is an integral part of NAYCOM’s youth employment strategy technically and financially supported by UNDP and implemented in collaboration with the Prívate Sector, NGOs, Njala University and the University of Sierra Leone.

Over 1000 young people have benefited from this scheme and about 600 have secured permanent employment across the country.

Graduate Entrepreneurship Programme (GEP)

GEP-Naycom is a platform where young entrepreneurs can connect with business mentors and potential investors for their business.

NAYCOM is dedicated to preserving and enhancing an outstanding quality youths who are making our communities desirable places to live, to work, and to raise children. Through the provisions of cost effective, superior services, NAYCOM will insure the promotion of productive and orderly growth for economic health and safety of youths.

Obasanjo Skills Acquisition Center

Since 2008, the center has been supported with funds from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and NAYCOM to provide integrated training programmes for young women and men. The overall aim of the Center is to improve the economic status of the unemployed and underemployed youth by providing opportunities for increased income through employment and self-employment. In order to accomplish this goal the Centre has in place training programmes and facilities that will equip young people to critically assess and analyze the nations development problems and gain the skills which will enable them to design a combination of human resources strategies that will provide effective solution to the growing problems of youth.

Youth In Agriculture

The Youth in agriculture project builds on the Youth Farm project which was limited to a 100 acre plot of farm land in Masalia village in
the Port Loko district. The project has since been extended to, Kono, Kenema, Tonkolili and Koinadugu districts. The project is helping reduce youth employment in these districts and contributing to their
overall empowerment.
The project is focusing on the cultivation of cassava, yam, potatoes, maize, millet and assorted vegetables. The project is also embarking on
the rearing of poultry (chickens and ducks) and the raising of small ruminants (goats and sheep).

Youth In Fisheries

The Youth in Fisheries project is benefiting 7,000 deserving youths and their beneficiaries in seven coastal districts of Sierra Leone namely Pujehun, Moyamba, Bonthe, Port Loko, Kambia, Western Area -Rural and Western Area Urban .

The project is fully aligned with the mandate of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, which is to develop and implement programs directed towards youth Empowerment and Employment.

The project engages the 1,400 direct participants into 70 groups of 20 youths, 25% of whom are female.
Each youth group comprises of 20 members with 15 males and 5 females. The bulk of the responsibility of fishing rests with men as women do not go out to sea to fish in Sierra Leone.

Youth Entrepreneurship

The Youth Entrepreneurship project is designed to address youth unemployment on the one hand and to also support young entrepreneurs in groups of thirty from the Western area and 14 districts to grow their businesses and take them to the next level.
To understand the actual needs of these youths in business, a dialogue forum was organised in March 2019 with over 100 youth entrepreneurs in attendance. The Minister of Finance gave the keynote address.

Youth In Commercial Transportation

The Youth Empowerment in Commercial Transportation Pilot Project is designed to break the cycle of poverty and unemployment and to prepare
and empower young people to make meaningful contributions to national development. The project seeks to empower youths by
strengthening the already existing youth structures in various communities in the country by providing taxi cars or motorbikes on loan
to 60 groups comprising of 20 youths each.

Youth In Car Wash

The Youth in Car Wash project will benefit male and female, literate or illiterate youths in 60 locations across the country directly benefiting thirty five youths each. The project will also indirectly benefit five dependants of each of the total 2,100 youths across the country. MOYA is setting up the Youth Car Wash Centers in collaboration with Local Council Authorities in each district.
